Welcome to Step 1 of the LCI Shop Class! Every week for the next 3 weeks, we will be posting a new step of the Adirondack Chair project. You can see the dates when the videos post over to the right-hand side of the page or visit the Shop Class homepage.

All right, let's get started! You’ll soon be basking in the sun with this stylish addition to your outdoor living space.

Instructions:

General: Cut and label the parts as needed, using the Project Illustration and Cutting Diagram as a guide and adjusting for fit. All parts are secured with glue and countersunk screws unless otherwise specified.

1. Build the leg and sub frame assemblies.

Note: The (01) A leg parts are ripped from a 1 x 6.

a. Draw a grid with 1-inch squares on a 36-inch-long piece of 1 x 6. Then use the layout in Figure 1 for the (01) A leg pattern, and scribe the pattern on the 1 x 6. .

b. Cut the (01) A leg to shape, and use it as a template to cut a second (01) A leg.

c. Using the dimensions shown in Figure 1, attach one (01) A leg to one (02) B leg. Build a second leg assembly to mirror the first leg assembly as shown in Figure 2. You can use the remaining 2 x 4 to help position and stabilize the parts during assembly .

d. Using pocket hole screws, attach the (03) leg brace to the leg assemblies as shown in Figure 2. Position the (03) leg brace so that it is parallel to the front edges of the (02) B leg parts.

e. Position the (04) back leg brace on top of the (01) A leg parts so that its front edge is 3/4 inch back from the long curve as shown in Figure 2.

The next step and video will be available on March 26.
