Family Flexibility

Fast forward a few years. If you have children, life’s busier than ever. Focus on safety, comfort, and ease. Consider having fun with paint colors (a red ceiling!), and use performance fabrics that will wear well. Splurge on a unique lamp or soft rug.

For kid-friendly spaces, add corner cushions (#34793) to tables with sharp edges.

Stage 2
  1. Tiny feet will sink into this soft shag-style rug; parents will enjoy its durability.
  2. Give the tables from stage 1 a sassy new spin with gold-colored glaze on the tabletop and a metallic finish for the legs.
  3. Create new artwork for the room with a free-form design painted on plywood and covered with acrylic sheets. Hang plates to complete your collection.
  4. Add recessed lighting for general illumination, track lights to spotlight the bay window area, and lamps for reading.
  5. A fresh coat of paint and coordinating hardware brightens a vintage side table that’s perfect for toy storage.
  6. Paint ceiling medallions and hang on the wall. You can tape family photos to the back, and voilà— frames in a flash!
  7. Select curvy wicker patio chairs for a family living space. The all-weather cushions resist tearing and stains.
  8. Cordless honeycomb-style blinds, which lack dangling strings, are ideal for families with little ones.
  9. To complement the red ceiling, paint the window trim a crisp white.
  10. Update the console table with new paint and gold-tone hardware for an elegant twist.
