Bamboo Picture Frame

Create this nature-inspired frame made from bamboo stakes and a clear plastic sheet.

STEP-BY-STEP
  1. Bamboo_marking Measure and mark a 3- x 5-inch outline in the center of the clear plastic sheet.
  2. bamboo2 Use a tape measure, marker, and handsaw with miter box to measure, mark, and cut the bamboo stakes. You’ll need to cut bamboo pieces that are 10 1/2 inches long for the frame’s sides and pieces that are 2 1/2 inches long for the middle top and bottom of the frame. Note: The number of cut bamboo pieces will depend on the natural thickness of the bamboo. Then, cut two 4 1/2-inch-long bamboo pieces, and miter cut one end of each piece at a 45-degree angle. (These two pieces will be used later to create a stand for the frame.)
  3. Bamboo_applying-silicone2 Apply a layer of silicone sealant to the area outside the marked outline. Carefully place the 10 1/2-inch-long bamboo pieces on each long side of the plastic sheet, and fill in the middle top and bottom areas using the 2 1/2-inch-long bamboo pieces. Allow sealant to dry.
  4. Bamboo_back-of-frame1 If desired, paint the back of the plastic sheet outside the frame window, or use wallpaper remnants to create a covering. Allow paint to dry. To make the stand, glue the two miter-cut bamboo pieces near the bottom of the frame’s back, and allow sealant to dry. Secure your photo to the frame using tape.

Good To Know: If you’ve never used a caulk gun, this project is a great way to become familiar with the tool; however, a glue gun can be substituted.
