Project Resources:
Cut and label the parts as needed, using these diagrams as guides and adjusting for fit.
Raise a compact refrigerator, wine cellar, or microwave to a more convenient height and add extra storage where space is limited. This project is easy to build, and it’s a stylish piece that’s perfect for any room.
Instructions:
General: Cut and label the parts as needed, using the Cut List as a guide and adjusting for fit.
1. Build the face frame assemblies
a. With glue and pocket hole screws, attach a (01) top rail, (02) mid rail, and (03) bottom rail to two (04) legs as shown in Figure 1. Make sure the rails are flush with the inside edges of the (04) legs.
b. Repeat Step 1a to create a second face frame assembly.
2. Join the two face frame assemblies
a. Using glue and pocket hole screws, join the two face frame assemblies with the remaining (01) top rails, (02) mid rails, and (03) bottom rails as shown in Figure 2.
3. Attach the shelves
a. Lay out 3/4- x 3/4-inch notches in the corners of each (05) shelf to fit around the (04) legs (see Figure 3). Using a jigsaw or handsaw, cut the notches, test-fit, and adjust as needed.
b. Using glue and finishing nails, attach the (05) shelves to the (02) mid rails and (03) bottom rails as shown in Figure 3.
c. Using glue and finishing nails, attach the (06) shelf nosing pieces to the edges of each (05) shelf to conceal the plywood edges. (See Figure 4.)
4. Attach the top and finish as desired
a. With glue and finishing nails, attach the (07) top to the (01) top rails so that it is flush with the outside edges of the (04) legs.
b. Miter cut the (08) top nosing pieces to fit around the (07) top as shown in Figure 5. Attach the pieces to the (07) top with glue and finishing nails.
c. Fill all holes, and sand smooth.
d. Apply three to four coats of stain; let dry. Then apply a coat of polyurethane.

Using a Squaring Jig
This tool will help you square and secure two boards while fastening or gluing them together. Click here to download plans for building a squaring jig.
When attaching butt joint parts, position one board flush against the corner where the two metal edges of the squaring jig meet; then clamp into place. Butt the other board against the first, making sure it is flush against the metal edge. Clamp into place, and attach with the appropriate fastener. If using glue, remove any excess from the jig’s surface.
