What is Shop Class?

Some of you have asked, "What is Lowe's Shop Class?"

Shop Class is a fun, FREE, four-week course where you will learn how to build a great woodworking project. This time, due to popular demand, we will be building a storage chest.

Each week, for four weeks, we will post a new video. Your instructor, Keith Flippen, will walk you through each step of the process. Plus, we will have printable instructions to make sure your project is a success!

Getting Tan and Batty

Completed Deck

My mind has been wandering lately. Spring fever? Yeah. Concern over the plants in the Giant Garden? Yeah. Wanting to hang out on my new deck? Oh yeah! Spending time on the deck has become this new event at my house. We’ve never had one and we are enjoying the heck out of it. My wife and I are vampires according to our friends:  we mostly go out at night.  I even garden at night; I guess we are just night owls.

Ever since we started construction on the deck, I've been doing things in the sun, though: mulching, ...

Spring Is in the Air

Lowe's Giant Garden Plants

Spring is in the air! At least today it is… I would’ve said that last week, but we got pummeled with snow. Not just any kind of snow – thundersnow! Now, being in the South, you can imagine the chaos that caused – you couldn’t get a loaf of bread for days. But actually, I was more concerned with our Giant Garden.

Fixed Faucet

Last night I fixed something I’ve been meaning to take care of for about a year – maybe more. I replaced the faucet in my tub. The thought of caulk, Teflon tape and plumber’s putty and the sheer terror of not having a working shower had me pretending the problem didn’t exist.  Meanwhile, the water bill was creeping higher and higher.

So finally, last night ...

The Sights and Sounds of the Holidays

Holiday Decorations

Now that there is nip in the air, it's starting to feel "winterish". And, with that feeling, I can hear the sounds of ladders being dragged out all across the neighborhood.  I know what happens next. The hypnotic hum of fans from the giant inflatables and surreal glow of colored lights are just around the corner.

So begins the neighborhood "decoratingfest" for the holidays.

I'm all about the season, celebrations and all of the festivities. Granted our decorations are not traditional: Our Elvis bust gets a festive collar, our refrigerator zombie gets a Santa hat and the ...

We're on the Blog Wagon!

In my 14 plus years at Lowe's, I've been a part of some exciting changes behind our "Blue Door", you might say - from almost tripling the size of our stores and working on the first e-commerce version of Lowes.com to becoming a Fortune 50 company and moving our entire corporate office. But, LowesCreativeIdeas.com and this blog are probably the most exciting projects I've worked on yet!

So, what are we going to actually write about every couple of weeks? Well, our Lowe's Creative Ideas team will share some of the latest trends, innovative products and concepts that can affect ...
